Tony Chen steps up as GroupM Chief Digital Officer

— GroupM China announces the promotion of Tony Chen to the newly created role of chief digital officer, China/Taiwan.
“Digital represents the future of our business,” said Patrick Xu, CEO, GroupM China. “With clients rapidly shifting ad budgets and attention to digital, we are fortunate to have someone of Tony’s caliber to lead GroupM’s next steps in the digital realm.”
Tony will continue to lead all agency digital teams and GroupM special units to drive the GroupM China digital agenda, offering the most integrated and innovative digital solutions in the areas of search, OTV, mobile, ecommerce, and social. Tony will also lead the Group’s real-time programmatic buying strategy and implementation, accelerating digital trading capability through global resources and local partnership.
GroupM China’s digital business has tripled over the past three years, and this growth will continue in 2014. In addition to delivering stellar client work, catalysts that have established GroupM as the category thought leader include high profile summits such as the GroupM Digital+ and Digital Fringe, the mLab innovation center, and viral videos such as “China at your Fingertips”.
Sara Si, President, Future Media Trading, will work in partnership with Tony to ensure GroupM has best in class digital trading by delivering value and efficiency to clients on all measureable criteria.
In his new role, Tony will also be responsible for strategic investment, identifying acquisition targets for China and Taiwan.
Tony has been President, GroupM Interaction, China, since 2010. Prior to joining GroupM China, he was General Manager for Dell consumer direct business in Greater China. Before that, Tony was the COO for RealNetworks China, Marketing VP for eBay China, and VP of Operations for Yahoo! China.
Tony is one of the most sought-after speakers on the topic of digital marketing in China. In addition to delivering keynotes at nearly all major China digital events, Tony has addressed international audiences at Cannes Lions and Spikes Asia. Tony is co-chairman of MMA in China.
