Winners - Red Dot Design Award, Linus Larsson (26) and Sebastian Roos (26) at The Core Company

STOCKHOLM — One of the world’s most prestigious design and innovation award - Red Dot Design Award has been assigned to a Swedish innovation in the class Industrial Devices.

As many as 1 816 manufacturers, designers and architects from 53 nations have nominated 4 815 entries and it has today been announced that the rescue descending device for wind turbines ResQ DD from Cresto is a winning entry. Former winners are among others, IPad 2 from Apple and the BMW M-6.

- Cresto and Core has proven their competence in competition with the world's best in the industry, in one of the biggest product and design competitions, according to the Red Dot Award. Degree of innovation, emotional attractiveness, form and function are some of the jury's assessment criteria’s.

ResQ DD is a rescue equipment device for wind turbines. It was created and developed from sketched concept idea to certified product and a mass production unit in just three years by the young Swedish innovator duo Linus Larsson (26) and Sebastian Roos (26) at The Core Company. Core develops innovations for clients in diverse industries from fast moving consumer goods to technology-intensive products and services between businesses (B2B).

Linus and Sebastian work to build clients' brands by developing concepts and products at the Core Innovation Lab at Chalmers. The duo has contributed to that several patents and patent applications have been created for Core’s customers. This also applies in the case of Cresto with the ResQ DD. However, this is the first time that a product design is competing in the Red Dot Design Award.

The global investment in wind power is increasing and the wind turbines will be both more powerful and higher. International safety regulations require that all wind turbines are equipped with evacuation equipment that safely can descend working personnel in the event of fire or personal injury. ResQ DD has through its innovative Direct Drive technology the largest rescue capability by far on the market.

In addition to the award for ResQ DD, Core has this year also been awarded the Red Dot Design Award in the category Home and Handicraft for its involvement in the development of safety goggles series Nordic Line by Zekler. Designed by Anders Kristiansson. The official awards ceremony takes place at a gala event with 1200 guests in Essen on July 7th 2014.
