CNNArabic.com reaps benefits of relaunch via VML Qais and Y&R Dubai

SINGAPORE — CNNArabic.com is rapidly benefitting from its digital overhaul and relaunch, handled by VML Qais and Y&R Dubai. CNNArabic’s responsive design – a first for Arabic news portals in the Middle East - adapts content to fit the device being used.

Over the past year, traffic to the website has risen 70 per cent over the past year; visitors originating from social media have more than doubled. And traffic from mobile devices is up 200 per cent in the past 12 months.

Having gone live with Cadillac as launch sponsor, the new site http://CNNArabic.com was CNN’s first fully responsive/adaptive site running from mobile to tablet to desktop, containing an array of cutting edge new features. View the video here.

Unrecognizable from its predecessor, which was based on the cnn.com English site design, the reinvented http://cnnarabic.com was redesigned entirely from the ground up with its Arabic speaking audience in mind from inception and based upon in-depth research.

Explained VML Qais Chairman Keith Timimi, “Our research into the target audience showed that they were accessing CNNArabic.com via multiple devices, often starting with mobile first thing in the morning, tablet at breakfast, desktop during the day and tablet at night. We also know that social media has become the top form of content discovery during recent years. Out of these insights, we built a unique interface that took the best of what CNN Arabic had to offer, and presented it in a context that made sense with current usage forms.”

Added Timimi, “The site’s unique Newsfeed paradigm has proved very user friendly, while allowing the editorial team to visually tag and curate lead stories. The Newsfeed remains present but reduces to a column or sideswipe menu as a 'Mini Newsfeed', enabling users to read on naturally without breaking their browsing flow.”

The restyled website will be launched with responsive design, meaning that regardless of the device or screen size, users will be presented with the optimum experience.

Newsfeed
The redesigned platform revolves around the central “newsfeed” containing hundreds of curated articles – from top stories and trending now packages, to features on subject areas such as technology, business and specific topics.

Social
CNNArabic.com brings social to the forefront of the site with embedded 'buzz checks' and Facebook commenting weaved into the fabric of the new site.

Continuous scroll

CNNArabic.com’s cutting edge continuous scroll technology allows users to consume the news quickly by seamlessly moving from story to story.
