Founded last year by world renowned author and data visualiser David McCandless, The Kantar Information is Beautiful Awards is the world’s first awards scheme that celebrates excellence and beauty in data visualisations, infographics and information art. Last year's awards received over 1000 entries from over 20 different countries – and this year's prizes range from $250 for a bronze category win through to $5,000 for the Most Beautiful Award.

“It’s a very exciting time for data visualisation,” says David McCandless. “It’s truly becoming a blossoming field for creativity, coolness and code. And, of course, a rising trend across news, web, science, marketing and business. We’re here to celebrate, support and give public exposure to the great work and rising talent that is appearing in this field. Dataviz is only going to become more prevalent, sophisticated and awesome over the next few years.”

As with last year, there are six categories to enter work to:
  • Data journalism
  • Data visualisation
  • Infographic/information design
  • Interactive visualisation
  • Motion infographic
  • Website
and, thanks to sponsor Kantar, the award entry fees are very low:

$10 per entry for students
$20 per entry for individuals
$76 per entry for companies/design agencies

HOW THE AWARDS WORK
After the entry deadline (30 August) a panel of judges (which includes David McCandless and Kantar creative director Aziz Cami) will draw up a longlist for each category which will then be published online on Monday 23rd September.

Two weeks later the judges will whittle it down further to a shortlist. The shortlisted work will be showcased on the awards site on Monday 7th October, where the online data visualisation community can vote for its favourite work in each category. A combination of online votes and the votes of the judges will then decide the winners. The results will be announced in late November at an awards ceremony in London.
