Almost all online videos are a linear and passive experience. The viewer clicks play, sits back, and watches the video - having the same viewing experience as anyone else. Linear video is a monologue in which only the voice of the content creator is heard.
In contrast, Reactive Video™ presents viewers with multiple choices (whether a few or dozens) within a single video. As the viewer engages by making choices, the video reacts by seamlessly changing the storyline based on the decisions made by the viewer.
Reactive Video™ is distributed on interactive platforms (PC/Mac, mobile, eventually interactive TV). It leverages the ability for viewers to interact with the video in real time, enabling a dialogue between the content creator and the viewer who, through choice, personalizes the viewing experience. And when the video has ended, the viewer can then share her/his personalized version of the video via email, Twitter or Facebook.
The choices that are offered to viewers can also be implicit, where the video will react to demographic information that can be known about a viewer. For example, content can be customized based on viewers' IP addresses -- scenes, languages, visual cues or dialogue can be localized for different viewers in different cities/countries who are watching the same video. Customizing the video experience in this way creates higher engagement and share rates.
More than just offering viewers fun and engaging ways to play with video, Reactive Video™ also allows content creators (i.e. brands) to react to the explicit and implicit information that viewers share via their choices.
